MOUNTAIN BIKING: Country Park

← NC RAINGAGE BRUSH CREEK AT MUIRFIELD RD NEAR GREENSBORO Single Tracks →

Description

I practically learned how to mountain bike on these trails. Sean, a pal from work, likes to torture co-ops by taking them riding here. We have all shed a little blood and went home with some bumps and bruises, but I'm the only one that has stuck with the life-threatening sport. At first I would bust on logs about six inches in diameter. Then it was on to harder things-literally. Once I was coming down this hill and caught a wet bridge at the wrong angle. My back tire slid out from under me, I slammed down on the bridge splitting a couple of planks and all that momentum knocked the wind out of me. There is a lot of fun single track on this trail, but you can also ride around the park on the paved roads. We usually start with a quick two to three miles of twisty and curvy single track and spit out onto the paved roads that circle the park. Then we ride more technical single track and exit the park to ride through a neighborhood towards Lake Brandt. That was the Wednesday ritual...and the Thursday ritual was always Sean exaggerating my near death experiences.

Directions

"On Hwy 220/Battleground Ave drive north away from the city. Turn right on Pisgah Church Road. The park entrance will be immediately on the left. You can go straight through the entrance and park near the lake and picnic areas. From here you can warm up on the paved roads. Or you can turn left after the entrance and park in the second parking lot on the right (adjacent to the softball field and Safety Town).
